MO just decided to allow concealed-carry for most citizens.

Is anyone suprised that i am going to apply for a permit?

i know, i can't take it in wallyworld, etc...that's not the idea. and i know it isn't gonna make me "ten feet tall and bulletproof."

I have been driving more, going to SCA events, spending time 50 minutes from work instead of right in town, going occasionally other towns, etc...and i want backup. a woman alone is sometimes viewed as a target.

about 2 years ago, there was a case of a young lady going home from work at night just a few miles from here. she was talking on the cell phone with either a family member or her BF, i forget which, when someone rear-ended her car. she asked them to call 911, hung up...and that's all we really know, except that her body was found two days later, buried near where someone who had just been let out of prison (parole?) from a conviction of rape, kidnapping, and more was living.

there was a rush on the cell phones next day so women would be safe.

Hello? how much good did the phone do HER?

i have a cell; the purpose is more for calling road service if i have CAR trouble than for expecting the cops to get there in time to save me from a homicidal creep. Think about it fo a minute: you live three blocks from the cop-shop...you hear something downstairs and call them...how long does it take them to GET there?

And people expect the response time to be faster on the freaking street or highway?

yes, i have had guns before; yes, i know how to use them; the only people in my apartment (that i know of) are over 18 and know what to do with a gun--and more importantly, what to NOT do.

House Rules:

1) you touch that firearm without specific permission, you will get your tail whupped.

2) IF i send you to get it, do NOT point it at ANYONE, that is my job.

3) keep your over-eager finger AWAY from the freaking trigger.

4) yes, it is loaded, unless you personally just UNloaded it and have the rounds in your hand and have not put the firearm down since you took them out.

5) IF i am not home, or am incapacitated by an intruder, THEN you may point the gun at said intruder and blow his/her butt straight back onto the wheel.

Recap:
it's loaded.
don't point it at anyone unless you intend to shoot them.
don't shoot unless you intend to kill.

Philosophy:
it is NOT a toy, it is a tool, with one purpose (or two, depending on the configuration of said tool).

Trivia: a cop once told me that the most common murder weapon in domestic cases was a claw hammer. funny, don't need a permit and a background check for them!

Musings:
think i will get a revolver; semi-automatics tend to jam just when you wish they wouldn't. even the ones that are kept very clean and properly maintained.

AND since i live in an apartment, safety rounds (they tend to frag on impact and not go through walls) might be a good option, ya think?

SO--you are welcome to state your opinions...but you're not gonna change my mind.
