Anyone here use the "Square" card reader / app?

How easy is it?  Does it *work*?

Does it have to go to a bank acct or can it go to paypal?

(I know the site says bank, whatev.  If I'm vending I may want it to do paypal, so....)

I decided to set up a facebook page for Fifth House...and guess what?  I had already done so.  More than a year ago, obviously, since the last post was more than a year old!

The FB page that reflects to my LMT page is still up and has been updated slightly more recently -- as in, within the last month.  Oh, wait -- that was the actual business page.  Gotta update the FB page too sometime!

And I think I'm just gonna give up on the Dragon Cave eggs.  The last three clutches I took, one egg hatched and nearly a dozen "died" even though I was posting them for clicks.  Sometimes one with MORE clicks would die and another, older egg, with fewer clicks, would hatch, but then the hatchling would expire.  So it has quit making sense to me and I've been staying off that page -- I do still watch the comms and ninja-click, though, when I think about it.

Also need to take some better photos and re-do the ETSY  store.  How do I expect to get any clients at the current state of things!?  Answer:  I don't.  Right now it's kind of a placeholder while I do some tweaking.

So there's a Celtic Festival in ... where?  Well, I linked to it a few posts back, no biggie...and if I'm vending, I need more pendants and earrings and such.  So I go to the FMG site and start filling my cart, and *akk!* everything I order is suddenly sold out!!!  and backordered!!!  Eeeek!

Of course, I get the chat window up and Lexi assures me that the stuff is there, it is just a glitch, but being the suspicious sort I am I go ahead and order by phone so they can LOOK and tell me it's on the way.  Ordered some stuff for the pirate/fairy faire also next year, and of course will get more before then...and likely sell it at VisionCon and WhiteHart too.

And for the Pagan Picnic next month.

And today need to pick up  couple of things at the store, drop off stuff (advertising!  postcards!) at the Post Office, and ... well, more marketing tomorrow in Monett.  Need to ask Soni abut setting up my chair in the store next week, and get some flyers up about it, drop off info at the auto repair and the glass shop, and check out the C of C.  Ooof.

If you have a small (service) business, do you belong to your local chamber of commerce?

Why or why not?

Do you feel you get good value for your dues?

Triggered by a post from [livejournal.com profile] daughterofodhin

Those of you who perform energy work, divination, etc.:

Do you charge?  Why do you charge?  How much do you charge?  How do you decide how much to charge?  Do you take barter, service for service, if you don't accept cash?

Why did you decide to NOT charge?  Do you ever accept a donation for, say, the animal shelter or on behalf of someone who is having a rough time?

I know a person* who will NOT charge for tarot readings or energy work -- but they'll call you up a few days later and do the whole "Oh, I'd just love to go here or do that or have this, but it's just too much trouble/money/etc.  Can you drop me off there and watch my kids and pick this up while I'm busy?"  *Sorry, I have clients that day.*  "Oh, well, I thought since I didn't charge for that (reading that took about 20 minutes at a venue we were both at anyway), you might be willing to help me out with this (which will involve about 5 hours counting travel time and several gallons of fuel, and buying food for the aforementioned kids).  SOR-ree to have BOTHered you!"  Now if they had said "barter for services" and arranged a time, that would be one thing, but I'm not canceling paying clients to encourage this individual's guilt-tripping tour guide business.  (I have been told by others that they have also been put to this.)

Just to clarify, I pay for whatever service I require now, or have a specific deal laid out.  And NOT with this person!

*No-one on this list, obviously.

MTs, has anyone tried this Instant Client Kit?  Was it worth it?

I ask b/c it has things for print media as well as websites and email, and many of my potential clients are, well, less than tech-savvy.  It's an older population in this area, with many who are still "afraid" of computers.

When I was in class, we were taught that being too long on the table, especially prone, could be "debilitating," as in you'd feel worse after the massage than before.

Yesterday, that massage-swap, I found out that an hour face-down followed by 40 minutes face-up is somewhat past my limit.    I still feel hungover.  Yeah, that's with the cal-mag supplements.

OH!  MaMa Jean's again tomorrow, 11 - 6, booked a client for Friday morning, and another for Saturday afternoon (or did I mention Saturday already?), and a meet with someone who is hiring for a salon/spa (sounds like W2-employee rather than IC, but right now that's OK with me).

Also, depending on the weather/temp, may set up at Farmers' Market Saturday morning just to get people used to the idea!

[livejournal.com profile] duane_kc , [livejournal.com profile] brotherwilliam , check back here and let me know how I did!

[livejournal.com profile] indigoskynet , I've re-found my Chore Wars account and set up several things adventures that need regular attention. I'm hoping that actually ticking them off will help me see what I DO get done and what still needs doing and helps me get/stay motivated.  I included jobhunting and estate and exercise categories, so...

I don't think I'll be posting the regular updates, but maybe when something especially tickles me or I have an EXTREMELY productive day!

In other areas, I had some good news today and got some reassurance on another, so that helps me feel validated.  Sad that I NEED it, but whatever.

You know how with most job interviews, you're edgy and nervous?  You want to be really careful to give a good impression?

Well, I've an interview this afternoon -- in Springfield -- at a dayspa, and when I was on the phone with the owner we were laughing and joking like we'd been pals for years.  A couple of things were brought up (on both sides) that have been deal-breakers before, and it was like "Oh GOOD!" this time.

I've prepared my usual "about me" folder with copies of pertinent education and licensing, added some fliers and brochures I've done, and printed out my new-and-improved resume`.  What am I forgetting?

Khakis are laid out and a good top,  hair will be pulled back and I'll be ready to provide a sample of my work.  (FYI, I carry sample packets of massage lotions in my purse.  How enthusiastic is THAT?)  (Chuckle.)

Anyway, this sounds like a place I could be very happy (fulfilled is included in happy).  Not in the "Lalala" sense, but in the "OK, I know what I'm doing and YAHOO they're letting me DO it!" sense.  So any good vibes, prayers, whatever would be very happymaking for me, thankyouverymuch.

(See what happens when Mercury goes Direct?)

Massage is like chocolate, only better.

1)  Both feel good.

2)  Both are good for you (dark chocolate especially!).

3)  Massage has no calories!
zianuray: (back)
now what do I do with it?

As of yesterday, I've added Aromatherapy certification to my portfolio, and today added Chair (aka On-site).

NOW....I need to figure out how to present these in such a manner as to get money for them.   Damnit, I got A's in "business letters" and English and such all along....now that I need it....where is it!

I know I need to "sell the sizzle, not the steak,"  I think I'm just too close to it.  Sleep on it, back off a little, let it perk and I'll be fine....yeah.  I'll get it.

Thanks for letting me rant.

I has a happy!

Wed I had a new client who looks to be a regular, and another person bought THREE GCs for hir spouse!  (I had to discount them to get the sale, but WTH, it's a sale I didn't have before that!)
zianuray: (dragoncandle)
Remember two years ago when the Springfield paper put me in one of their "local artisans to buy from this holiday" bits?

I JUST got a phone call about some red dragon candles.

And I haven't made any in months -- I have like ONE black dragon waiting to hatch.

Well, good thing it ain't TG yet!  I have a couple of weeks to get a few hatched, and make for that Kris Kringle market in Galena as well (which is about an hour out, according to google; not much farther than Sprungburg, and closer than White Hart).

Under construction, of course...but it's at least out there!

zianuray: (PuppyRub)
There's a webinar I want to register for, and it will get me CEUs that I'll need when it comes time to renew my Massage Therapy license.

I can't justify paying out-of-pocket right now, and it starts Monday (so I need to have the money in Paypal by tomorrow night).

Therefore, if you buy a Gift Certificate for a one-hour massage for $27 (including mailing it to you or the person-of-your-choice), I'd be delighted and thank you manymanytimes.

I need to sell at least 6 to cover the cost of the webinar (by NCBTMB which is how MO decides if it's CEU-eligible, for now), paypal processing fees, postage, and cost of the certificates themselves..

No limit on how many you get at this price, and I will mail them early next week (to you) or closer to the holidays (if you specify this, for gifts).  OH- -- and no expiration date on these.  Good as long as I'm practicing.  And you'll be extending that by getting these, so...!  Win-win, right?

Paypal address is FifthHouse at gmail dot com.

Of course, if you can't get one -- or just don't want to -- that's fine too!

**Of course, my office is in Monett, MO -- but if we'll be in the same place for a day or so (think Cons, RenFaires, etc.), surely we can both find time!**

Oh -- feel free to post a link back here :)  ([livejournal.com profile] reannon  reminded me that this might be a good idea)

I have an appointment for tomorrow!

That's two...

and I have a bunch of cards to get out to Mt Vernon and Monett Police and Fire dept's today, and I want to get some to the various Veteran's organizations.

Also, I'm setting up a box at the paper where DH works (and a couple of other places) for a drawing for a one-hour massage.

I decided long ago that military ID gets you a one-hour rub at half-price.  Active, Guard/Reserve, Retired...but I need to see that ID, or how do I know?  (Yes, Susi, this includes spouses spice!)  DH talked me into extending that to LEOs and Firefighters -- LEOs I know carry ID, but how about firefighters?
