Writer's Block: If I had a hammer

Oh yeah.   I was "encouraged" to be either a hairdresser/cosmetologist or a nurse.

Nurse b/c of the "job security" and we all know what has happened to that in the last couple of decades, right?

So first I was a mechanic, then various unskilled jobs, then a factory where I got OJT to run certain very specific machines that don't translate well to other manufacturing plants...finally got my license as a massage therapist after two separate schools (y'all know the story on the first one, right?), and currently taking calls in a call center.

*shrug*

And there'll likely be another career change or two if I'm to believe the "statistics".


 

Today's plans and a question

Em's headed to Sprungburg for some appointments and since I'd get bored (and therefore into trouble) while waiting, I'm staying home and making some projects :D

Those of you who've tried my chocolate soap -- do you think a "gift basket" of choc soap, lip butter, and body butter would sell?

Same for the Pomegranate?

I have a couple of the choc massage bar soaps left, sort-of thinking about making more of the "cocoa toad" ones.

(I hesitate to call it "Chocolate Frog" soap for reasons that should be obvious to anyone familiar with copyright law!)

May have to actually pay for MS Word...the labels I got for my lip butters have templates, but they won't translate to either OpenOffice or to the Avery site by any method I can figure out.  *grump*

SOME of the labels are of a size compatible with Avery, but not all by any means.

Anyone good with such things willing to do a few "label templates" for OpenOffice for me, bartering for the sort of things i make or a massage (or three, as I'm not sure of the rate for such work)?

Also laundry to do and clean out the car, maybe wash her so I can get the new bumper stickers on :D


EDIT:  OK, I think I've figured out how to make the templates; now to work on it until either I get it right or I start throwing things.

Movie: Sorcerer's Apprentice

So we went to see that yesterday -- and yeah, not gonna over-analyze it b/c all I wanted from it was an amusing romp.  Pretty much what it was, in fact.  Em opined that they should have had Criss Angel playing the bad-guy's apprentice, I disagreed -- the one they had was more sloppily overconfident in his sinister-isity than Angel would have been, IMO, and therefore a better comedic foil.

Happily, they did throw in the mop scene!

 

Smoke gets in your eyes...

So I can't even get library books anymore.  Time before last I was on a waitlist, got notice, and went to pick the book up as usual...got it home and opened it...and the last several people to have checked it out seem to have been smokers.  Even before I noticed the smell, my eyes started burning and watering.  Yeah, sure, wrap it in paper and baking soda in a sealed bag for a week or so...that's not the point.  I don't feel I should have to decontaminate books in order to read them.  The next time (most recent and last, so far, in the last 3 years) I had a book on order, I opened it AT the library before checking it out...and the same thing happened.  I looked up at the clerk with tears (from the irritation, not anger nor sorrow) running down my face and said "I'm sorry; I don't think I'll be coming back.  Send this to the next person and let's hope they're not allergic to tobacco smoke."

And no, just the fact of someone being a smoker does not mean that a book they've read is toxic to me -- I've lent several of my own to people who smoke.  They just keep their habit and my book apart.  It's when the book stays in a smoky environment for long enough to absorb the particulate and irritants that there is a problem.
