that the more a hotel/motel/lodging costs, the more "additional fees" and the fewer amenities you get?

Mariott Maquis in Atlanta, GA -- minimum $150/night.  Local phone calls, min. $1 each.  Internet access -- $20/day in-room line; $10 PER LOGON WiFi.  Fridge by prior arrangement, $10/night fee, "subject to availability"; no microwave.  Parking $20/day.

Knight's Inn / King's Inn (various places) -- $50 night maybe.  Generally $40.  Dorm fridge and nuker in room.  Free local calls.  Free parking on a well-lighted lot.  Usually no internet (unless you have a dial-up account -- in which case, that 800 number is a free call.)

Day's Inn -- $50-69/night.  Most had a fridge.  Local calls free (well, included.)  WiFi / DSL included.  Some had a nuker.

And the rooms are (heh) roomier at the Knight's Inn and better yet at the Day's Inn.

Sheesh.  You do NOT get what you pay for in lodging.

I know, the Maquis is a big business/convention place, with bellhops and valet parking and overpriced cafes and grills that are closed when you're most hungry and roomservice food sucks.
