So I was looking at a Trick-or-Treat swap on Swap-bot, thinking to join, and decided against it, b/c with my luck I;d get this chick --

"Ok...so....I know this is going to come across as being rather odd.....but I have a very special request for my partners.....I don't actually celebrate Halloween....but I LOVE candy...and 2 of my favorite colors are Orange and Black....so can I please request either all candy in my treat bags, or if you want to mix it up, I would prefer decoing or scrapbooking things in the color of orange and black, and like silver....whatever other colors you associate with Halloween.....lol. The only exception to this...would be like shaped foil confetti or Halloween Kawaii things, like the ghosties or vampires/monsters. Just NO witches at all please....lol. I live in (redacted)....its pretty safe to send Chocolate in the mail at any time...lol....and I like all kinds of candies....except super sweet or sour things like warheads, smarties, pixie sticks, etc. I'm also allergic to Walnuts and Pecans, and I dislike coconut and white chocolate! Please read my profile or contact me if you have any questions"

OK, so it's labeled as a Trick-or-Treat swap, but she doesn't do Halloween, but she wants candy to her specifications, and vampires and ghosts are OK, but no witches....so I'm staying out of this one.  I don't think I'd be able to resist if I got her as a partner.  Or maybe I should join and specify that anything sent to me should be "as witchy as possible" and hope she gets to send to me!

Sheesh!  If you don't do Halloween, why are you trick-or-treating?

She sounds she'd be a painful swap no matter what the theme. It would be tempting to send all witchy things though.

*snort* Yeah. I'm watching it anyway, if she goes away I'll sign up.

I've never signed up for anything on Swap-Bot. Do swaps usually turn out well?

Generally, yes, and there's a rating system so if someone has a LOT of problems with not meeting requirements or sending late/not at all, the swap "owner" can see that and ban them from that swap. And it has happened that recently, some folks have been removed from the entire site!

She lost me at "I don't actually celebrate Halloween". I LOVE Halloween, despite being diabetic. Oh, sweet irony.

I actually cringed at "Kawaii".

You'd like me, then -- I always get at least SOME sugar-free stuff for the Cauldron and for the Ostara basket, and raisins, and trinkets, for those who can't have (or don't want) sugar.

I cringed at the Kawaii too. Oye...using Japanese words like that does not make you cool, it makes you look silly.

There are entire Kawaii swaps that specify "No hello Kitty" or "only pandas" or whatever. I tend to avoid swaps for Kawaii, amigurumi, etc.

LOL! "No fundies permitted, must have at least one witchy thing per basket"?

Let's both join and use that line -- double the chances of her getting offended!

duh, these pain meds are messing with my powers of reading :P
I thought it was you who was saying all this about not liking witches and saying all this stuff. **insert witchy shrieking cackle here**

Nor would I be able to resist the urge to send every thing witchy themed if I go her in a swap~~ I'd have to be on a serious **coughcough** witchhunt if I got her name :P

Yeah I read the first time and wondered "Has Zia gone Fundie?" & then thought "Nah not possible from the dragon-soap-lady!"

Please please can we go on a witch-hunt for her and send her every possible thing she wouldn't want!?

J/k

I had a lady I used to work at Burger King with years ago who was a Jehovah's Witness. Of course, me being me, I would give small gifts to everyone that worked with me on Christmas Eve. Nothing big mind you. Normally just a special candy bar or a small trinket wrapped up pretty. Her, I would just give the unwrapped item. Because I couldn't leave her out, right?

Come to find out, this hurt her feelings. Why? Because I didn't wrap hers. She had no problem accepting a gift as long as I didn't call it a "Christmas gift".

I have relatives who were JWs and would accept Christmas presents but only if they were unwrapped. Same with birthday gifts. I always thought that was bogus. You either celebrate or you don't. They made such a big deal about not attending the Christmas/family reunion parties but they still wanted the gifts.

~grin~ This reminds me of one lass in the last swap I did, a Goddess Doll swap. She wasn't religious AT ALL and promised to be HIGHLY, VOCALLY offended if she received ANY religious paraphernalia of any kind.
~facepalm~

I want to know how you look at a swap, see the word "Goddess", and think, "What a great place to be a militant atheist!"

I also second "as witchy as possible". ~headshake~ Some people.

I'd have banned her, if I'd been running the swap. I mean, HOW do you get "Goddess" w/o SOME form of religion getting in there? I mean, even "Mother Earth"...yikes!

i think i'm only sticking to switch witch from now on. this morning i received a mildewed book and out of date candy (valentine's candy too no less) plus a bunch of other really obviously old tat that belonged in the garbage.

i hope you don't get stuck with this girl as a partner but definitely witch up her package in the spirit of the season ;D

I'm not even sure where "switch witch" is -- I see lots of references to it by BPALers, so I'm thinking maybe that Forum?

yep! the leaders take time to match you with suitable partners, and i feel like you have plenty of help (pretty much the entire SW thread besides the leaders themselves) to help you out.

this is only my second round but the good experiences i have already had just reinforce in my mind how well run switch witch really is, especially when compared with the unfortunate experiences i have had in other swaps. i see you talking about swap bot all the time, maybe you should try switch witch next round :)

i'm forbidden from communities like that. I used to do these things thru a Disney group that I belonged to, and I would just get a lot of stuff and send out stuff and Ian (the Husband) hated, all the "CRAP" I'd get. I love doing exchanges, I really do, they're SO MUCH FUN..

You should join, but specifically ask to NOT be joined with a partner that doesn't get the entire idea of a trick-or-treat/Hallowe'en swap.

And make that request in big honkin' type and bright letters.
