Advice requested.
Jun. 10th, 2007 01:53 amAny massage therapist reading this is invited (begged) to email me with advice, good areas to specialize in, questions I should ask, any equipment you wouldn't be without, wouldn't use if you were paid to use it like a sports star, good brands of the chairs (and if you won't use one, tell me that too!), etc. Or just comment here.

Equipment I wouldn't be without - an Earthlite Spirit table - I get the best compliments about the quality of my table, how comfortable it is, how stable it is. Grapeseed oil, it's natural and lightweight.
Equipment I would never use - any table from BJs/Costco or is otherwise under $350. You really do get what you pay for and the equipment you use is the one area to never ever skimp on. Any Biotone product - I've read too many instances of people having reactions.
With chairs, I do like the Dolphin best of the ones I've seen and tried. If I ever buy a chair, that is probably the one I will get.
Questions you should ask .... to who?
Date: 2007-06-10 04:06 pm (UTC)Why do I want to be an MT? That's an entry or three by itself, seriously. Short answer, it is something I need to do for myself. I have done the shoulder rubs, etc., since I could walk. I took classes once upon a time, but that school got shut down for not getting their paperwork in on time when the laws in MO changed (even though they had as much notice as anyone else!) so I never finished, and something about the look on a person's face all blissed out while I'm working on them fulfills me in a very basic way. Turning an "ouch" into an "aaaahhhsigh" is just IT.
Spa...might be nice, eventually. Right now I'm planning to get with some Chiropractors and either rent a room from them (having a lawyer check any contract, of course) or work on their patients pre-adjustment; check out the better hotels; convention centers; heck, there's 6 or 8 truck stops within 20 miles -- set up a chair there for some REAL business! Get enough to cover the usual expenses just of being alive that way, then go to an assisted living facility or the local Veteran's Home one day a week to pay the Karma. I go to several Cons and or Faires over the course of a year, and several of them could certainly use an MT around! (Uh, actually, I can think of very few people who couldn't.)
I really have given this some thought -- I'm just afraid I'm so into the idea that I'll miss something obvious!
