DH has told me I can dispose of 2 pair of his jeans -- I'd consider them not-quite yardwork-only status of decrepitude. Anyone want them for cutting into patches, making purses, etc?
I don't need them myself, but jeans make PERFECT bases for bellydance belts, both cabaret & tribal!
(forgive me if you know this already)
Draw out the shape of the front and the back of the belt on the fabric. Cut two of each. Layer them one atop the other and sew together. Keep the front and the back as two separate pieces, each two layers thick. Cover the front and the back with whatever pretty "base" fabric you want (velvet, a shiny brocade, etc), then decorate to your heart's content! You can attach it several ways - you can put long ties on each side that hang down into great tassels, which allow your shape to expand and contract without losing your favorite dance belt that you worked so hard on - OR - I sew one side together and put heavy-duty hooks on the other side. But if you do the latter way (like I do), you have to keep checking to make sure you haven't grown or shunk so much as to throw it off center, because then you have to take it completely apart at the sides to readjust it. Either way really works just fine.

Just a thought.
