So I can no longer locate the specific rules for the various "points" (if you have it, a link would be nice!).
I got a package a little while back where
1) Yes, there was a little bit extra in it -- but really poor quality notecards. The ink smeared over everything so they were unusable.
2) Mailed/postmarked a day or so AFTER the mail-by date (not a big deal in itself).
The date on the site said it was mailed three days before the deadline.
and 3) Postage due.
So I rated a 5, no heart.
And got a pouty reply that the late and the postage-due shouldn't have caused a markdown, she should have gotten a HEART b/c she sent an extra notecard.
Now, the rules I remember -- and correct me if I'm wrong -- late mailing is a 3.
And hearts are totally optional and at the discretion of the rater.
Am I being just too mean? Should I go back and add a heart just because she pouted?
I'm just wondering why I get stuff sent to me "postage due" (3x recently) -- when I get packages / letters sent BACK to me if I don't put enough on them (twice that I recall -- may have been more).

Not a swap-er...
Date: 2008-03-12 12:32 pm (UTC)- extra effort is nice, extra effort with a bit of forethought is better.
- postage due indicates that someone did not pay attention to the 'rules' (i.e., take it to the P.O. and check the weight for a final postage reading before mailing it)
- late work gets a lowered grade; late work with a lie gets nothing. It's called academic dishonesty, BTW, and (in my classroom) it won't wash.
Yes, I am comparing this to classroom teaching, but y'know, that's the issue these days; people don't see school work as 'real', and now they are transfering that attitude to real life activities. Just because no one is paying you cold hard cash for it, doesn't mean it isn't important.
And, for the record, I pay attention to things like postmark dates on shipments from vendors and eBay sellers; if it's late, I make a note, if it's late and the seller posted that it was mailed on an earlier date, I note it in feedback - negatively. Don't lie to me...

Date: 2008-03-12 03:19 pm (UTC)And yeah, I keep track too -- on Swap-Bot, "the rules" TELL you to check postmarks and such.

Date: 2008-03-12 03:12 pm (UTC)I've signed up for two more easy swaps -- not "make 17 of this, all different!" -- just to keep in with it. One is 3 pens the other is soap -- each to just one person. SO much easier than multiple items to multiple people, though those are fun WHEN I have time.
Hopefully I'll be busy enough to not have much time for this after graduation!

Date: 2008-03-12 07:07 pm (UTC)We're still on the Muscle System, and it's complicated -- there's a lot to memorize (which, I'm sure, I'll forget 15 seconds after turning in my boards!), but I passed Swedish and we're all on geriatric, prenatal, and infant massage right now in the practical part of the class.
So how's YOU?

Date: 2008-03-12 05:17 pm (UTC)She's a f'n bitch, ignore her ass or change her rating to something lower, or remove your rating. If she bitches say you don't appreciate being harassed. I have sent out AWESOME swaps and got a 5 no heart, and then sent out things where the item itself is awesome, and got a heart. The ITEM is what it's based on. For real.
You are NOT being too mean. You should leave a 3. She is being a baby. You mess up, you take the consequences (hello, my zero marring my perfect score?) And hearts ARE at your discretion. You are right, she is out of line.
