Things have been going missing that really should not be -- Em's glasses, a couple of books that one of us saw the other put back on the shelf, etc.

Any suggestions for placating "pookas"?

I'm considering putting out a saki bowl of liquor for them (on the mantel) or sweets on the deck; would either of these be likely to work?

Those of you who practice magic -- not prestidigitation -- has anyone ever asked you to "do a spell" for them, then gotten offended if you refuse that but offer to show them how to set one up on the grounds that "Oh, I couldn't!  I'm a Christian and it's against the rules!"?  How does them asking you to do it negate the fact that they wanted it and they asked you to?  Aren't they still culpable by their own rules?

Sorry for the mixed-up grammar, I'm just not sure how else to phrase it.

I've even said "OK, here's a list, you go get these ingredients, call me when you have them, and I'll come over and we'll do the work." and they say "No, no, I couldn't!" with much flapping of hands and shaking of head.

A few years ago -- and this may already be posted, so forgive me if I'm repeating, but I couldn't find it -- I was looking into the Elder Futhark a bit.

And I was considering the rune Dagaz that day.

Now it had been suggested that one should meditate deeply on the assigned meaning of the rune for several days, and I was on the third day of this one.  I don't know how "deeply meditative" I got, but at least I was thinking about it when my brain wasn't otherwise needed.

Anyhow...we'd gone to break and come back and I set my machine to running and turned to get something -- and the lead (B****) walks in, looks at the moving machine, looks THROUGH me, turns and asks R. "Is [Zia] back from lunch yet?" in that "Ohboyohjoy, I get to yell at her!" tone.

R. gets this look on her face (told me later she thought B****'d lost it) and points at me, as if she's a bit too weirded-out at that moment to trust her voice.  Keep in mind I'd been RIGHT THERE in plain view.

So B**** has to come up with some sort of reason it's my fault she wasn't paying attention.

I found out the next day that one of the properties of this rune is said to be that it can make one invisible.

Still too run-over to vend -- I wimped out REAL early. Did get one item that a few of you might be interested in, though I'm betting it's faked:

24 spells "found in a coffee canister in the rubble after Katrina." Attribued to Marie Laveau, of all people. The can SUPPOSEDLY dates to 1896. What I got was a translation, certainly not the "originals."

Eeeh, $13 for something to read. I've spent more on worse.

Anyone interested in me typing out one or two of what's in the packet?
