Someone named Chuck left a message on my VM that he was the owner, didn't blame me a bit, what can he do to make it right, etc.

I've held off calling back because 1)  time difference, baby and 2) my spouse is in hospital and I'm a bit frazzled myself at this point.  Will try to call today and find out what he proposes to do about it.

ETA:  Left msg, "Chuck" called me back; kept going on-and-frakking-ON about how he is the production part of the op, he TOLD his partner to let him help with shipping stuff, it's just SO not like EIther of them for things like this to HAPpen....*gah*
Finally (when I got a word in) told him to replace one item (King Coal) with something else as it didn't work for me, he tells me I'm not using it right (!!); send Nag Champa soap, replace the rest of the order with equivalent value.  If/when it gets here, I'll let the BBB know the issue is resolved.

Replacement order from Bliss Soaps in Seattle still has not arrived. Emily does like the Nag Champa soap that I was able to salvage a half-bar of, though! $68 for two bars of soap, one of which does not perform as advertised, is rather steep for my budget. I am less than impressed and will not be ordering from them again. First post Second post

So I heard a small business in Seattle was having a twofer sale -- buy and pay, and they'll ship double what you ordered!

So I drop over $50 on product and another $13 on shipping, thinking I'll get 18 soaps and 2 deodorants...it shipped 10 days after ordering, and arrived 14 days after that -- Priority mail, so I'm wondering if it was shipped when the invoice said....(Just checked the postage label -- the invoice said it shipped 11 Nov, date on the printed label was 21 Nov. Can't blame the PO there!)

And it got here today...and it was not packed properly. No padding to keep things from shifting in the box, several of the soaps were not labeled (and it's not easy to tell from the pix on the website what they were supposed to be), some don't smell anything like the description (and I think I know what patchouli smells like by now), and most of the wrappers were soaked with the deodorant when the container smashed...and just what I ordered, not doubled at all. In fact, due to the damaged labels, I'm not certain I got what I ordered.

Some few of the soaps look to be salvageable for my own use, but most were supposed to be presents. I'll use things that aren't quite right, but I won't give them as gifts.

Now to be fair, when I called the store, the guy who answered the phone (possibly one of the owners) sounded quite upset -- they had had such a response to the sale they hired in some people JUST to pick and pack. This may explain the whole deal. And they are supposed to ship a replacement order. I'll post again when the new order gets here.

Got a call yesterday that could be good PR, could be more trouble than it's worth.

Someone has a daughter on total care, about 15 miles away over not-so-good roads (travel time would be at least 30 minutes one way) according to the phone number prefix.

Had an MT coming for several years to work on the daughter, but the MT raised her rates and she couldn't afford it anymore.  Taking the daughter to my office in Monett is out of the question, apparently, and calling any of the MTs in her own town (at least 3 that I know of) likewise.

She wants me to drive out every week to work with her daughter for an hour -- plus travel time of an hour, plus setup and all -- for $20 each trip.

She can't afford regular rate, can't leave her name, didn't ask if there are options or if I'd take insurance.  If she's been primary care for someone for years, wouldn't she know to ask about insurance?  If she's a distraught mother, wouldn't she ask about barter or somesuch?

I've had several people try to scam me already, and I just don't know if this is another.  I feel bad that she can't afford the regular rate and that I don't feel I'd be breaking even.  If she'd be willing to work with me on options -- like getting me referrals from her church, support network, whatever -- I'd work with her in return, but just "No.  Gimmie."  bugs me.

Granted the daughter has a raw deal (if she exists), as does the mother (as supposedly primary caregiver),  but I've hauled table to out-of-the-way places before and been told, "Oh, s/he's not here -- well, since you're here, you can work on me while you wait!"  (When you tell them the rate, they insist "But you're already here!  It's not like it's going to COST YOU anything!")  Which would be OK IF they'd pay me for the work, but that wasn't in their game plan.  And I consider that a scam, too.

Does anyone know how I can find out if this gal is on the up-and-up?  What really makes me suspicious is that it seems none of the MTs in her own town are willing to work with her, or why would she be calling someone from elsewhere?

And before y'all get all "UR being MEEN" on me, yes I do have some "charity cases" that pay a greatly reduced rate.  As well as my other tings I do including blood and sweat (but not tears so far, except when the needle slips).

ETA:  And the votes are in...and I'm leaving it well alone.

For the 15th time, just from frustration, I uninstalled the printer drivers and reinstalled them from the Dell website.

Had to turn off some things that hadn't been turned off by the HP/Compaq talking me through it, but eeh.   And y'know what?

I just printed some stuff I need from the Compaq laptop using the Dell printer, exactly as it should work.

DH suggested that there may have been an update inbetweentimes that corrected whatever was thrown off when it quit working.

I don't know.

I DID set a restore point to right after I printed those pages!
