So I've gotten a few essential oils -- ones I can't find locally -- from this website, and I've been looking at the carrycase, and finally just ordered it.  Wasn't finding anything at the craft shops, basement, etc that I liked that would FIT the bottles properly so spent the $30 (I know, for me right now that's quite a bit and I nearly choked, but it's a good sturdy case and should last me about 30 years).

SO.

Room for 22 5, 10, and 15 ml bottles.

Plus a mixing bottle, plus a 4 oz bottle of carrier.

Current plans:

15 mls of
Lavender
Peppermint
Rosemary
Lemon
Blood Orange
Tea Tree

Thieves' Oil blend
TT/L blend (diluted)

OK, that's 8 -- 14 to go!

Black Pepper
Cajeput (especially in summer -- good for fire ant bites)
Lemongrass or Lemon Eucalyptus (insect repellents)

Juniper or Cypress (for water retention -- both are diuretics)
Sandalwood (10%)
Rose (10%)
Clary Sage
Ravensara
Vitex (maybe -- any interest?) (Mostly used for "female trouble" and difficult menopause)
Helichrysium (10%)

Things that I should be able to "treat" with this kit in its current incarnation are:

scrapes/minor cuts
swollen ankles
sore muscles
sunburn
insect bites
shingles flare-ups
motion-sickness
traveler's trots
sinus congestion
menstrual cramps
minor arthritis pain
headaches (so drink your water anyway -- prevention's better, don'cha think?)
bruising

link to that site's uses for their "first aid kit"  which pretty much agrees with the hardcopy books I have had for some time (15 years for some!).

The site gets v-e-r-y specific as to chemotypes and such, and that's ok -- that's their BUSINESS.

However, tea tree oil is pretty much tea tree, and lavender is pretty much lavender, etc.  Now, lavender is NOT lavandin, and peppermint is not spearmint is not wintergreen, but it's pretty much of a muchness for my current purposes.  If I were in a research lab, looking for the one variety of oil to cure rhinovirus, I'd be getting a lot more specific too.

What am I not thinking of here?  No, I'm not planning to sell the concoctions to patrons; I just want to have them on hand for myself and for any cast who would like to try them.

I'm planning to make some rosewater and some peppermint water also -- peppermint water is supposedly good for the itch of poison ivy (AFTER you get the oil-sap-stuff off!)

I will SO buy a bottle of Rosewater off of you. I need it to make the rose petal beads I have a recipe for.

I'll be getting some new sunshades for the car this week -- the spring-frame has popped on one -- and would you like the old ones? They have a red -on- black dragon motif and I figure you're more likely to use them for something than I am and I don't want to just toss them....

Thad's got one and our car is like..so very dead. Otherwise I'd say yes.

I had the idea you might use the fabric for something. My mistake!

huh..hadn't thought about that. I could try something that way. Clever you!

Heat rash! I'm fighting horrible heat rash already this year from being in a sweaty bodice. If you have a concoction that treats that, I'd definitely be interested.

Got one in mind -- the first person I made it for was mad for awhile though -- she got heat rash but never sweated -- with this, she didn't get heat rash, but she DID start to sweat and didn't like that!

I already sweat, so that isn't an issue. I'll be happy to be a guinea pig and try something out!

(and what I have in mind may help keep bugs away, too!)

Penny royal oil for both bruises and bug shield
Jewelweed for insect bites (I need to order some of the soap and salve for myself, I'm still using last year's)

Hmm, I don't use either of those -- I had some dried pennyroyal to scatter in the grass and keep bugs down, but I've not used the oil, nor jewelweed. Jewelweed would be an infused oil, wouldn't it? Haven't seen that as an EO unless it has another name.

I have some pennyroyal oil, not essence but oil that is fabulous for keeping bugs away. It is awfully hard to get because it is also used and an abortant and so everyone is skiddish about selling it.

Jewelweed is simply awesome! http://www.altnature.com/jewelweed.htm
Remember when I had poison ivy and couldn't get rid of it? *nods* It was a couple years ago, no matter if you don't remember; it was scary as hell. I had it from my toes to upper thigh and was terrified it would travel further north. This is the stuff that I used that worked, even after a trip to the doctor with antibiotics and shots didn't affect it any.

I've just now ordered the jewelweed soap and salve, as well as her bug repellent roll-on product. I can no longer use DEET products at all as that actually attracts bugs to me...go figure. I did not order the jewelweed spray this time. You're welcome to try all of them and see what you think.

Reading about the Jewelweed (a form of Impatien) is most educational!

"so everyone is skiddish about selling it."

"Everything is medicine, everything is poison." That's not an exact quote, but you know what I mean. Heck, you can make a perfectly healthy salad with what's in your backyard -- or accidentally kill someone if you don't know what the plants are.

Seems like every reference has a DIFFERENT list of "aagh! Toxic!" oils/herbs -- some overlap, some don't. One I have lists hyssop and another, rosemary!

Exactly. Since I would never take pennyroyal internally, it isn't a problem but it's great for keeping bugs away. I believe there's some in her bug repellent, if I remember correctly.

No wonder some people make a life-long study of it. I'm hoping to get Yolanda, the Egg Lady, to vend at White Hart eventually; she hopes to come and visit this year. Her hubby is a wonderful fella who is a Reiki practitioner and an herbalist, in addition to having a martial arts shop, which is why he isn't at faire with her as much now, doggonit.

Oh, the other thing I'm never without when I travel is Tee Tree Oil.

OH yeah, Tea Tree is great! I use a lot of Lavender, too, though I don't like the scent. If it works, it works.

Also, who would I ask to find out if Misty Manor Mercers has signed up to vend? I gave them the link and since it's after Lilies, they were very interested (soap, candles, and spun yarn/thread).

All the vendor stuff goes through Di so I don't know where anything stands right now. I know that her mother's funeral was yesterday.
